The Mere celebrates Topping Out of new luxury 81 bedroom hotel with traditional ceremony
The Mere Golf Resort & Spa and Pochins PLC Construction Group hosted a Topping Out Ceremony on October 12th for the new luxury hotel which is due to open at the resort in March 2012.
The event was attended by Antony Pochin, Director of Pochins alongside Mark Boler CEO of The Mere and Graeme Nesbitt General Manager of The Mere. Representatives from Visit Cheshire, Cheshire East Council and Royal Bank of Scotland were also in attendance.
Mark Boler CEO of The Mere Golf Resort & Spa commented “This is such a proud day for me and the whole team at The Mere. It’s fantastic to finally see the hotel near completion and I just want to thank everyone who has supported us in getting to this stage. Our aim is to create the premier resort destination in the North West and I look forward to the launch in March next year.”
The Topping Out event took place on the roof of the four storey building, where Mark Boler and Co-owner Gary Corbett secured a young Norway Spruce in celebration of the completion of the final height of the building which was followed by a champagne toast.
Guests were given a tour of all four floors by Mark Boler and the Pochins team giving them the opportunity to see the layout of the new hotel and the size of the bedrooms and suites.
The completed hotel will comprise 81 bedrooms constructed from an extension to the original Victorian building along with a new Brasserie restaurant located in the existing atrium. The construction phase included demolition of the old leisure area and involved the refurbishment of a large portion of the existing building. Pochin also carried out external works to the new retaining walls, pathways and additional landscaped areas.
The hotel has been designed by local architects NJSR and the interiors by Wilmslow based consultancy Mather & Co, who also designed the Spa & Health Club which was opened at the resort in January 2011. Mather and Co’s approach was to ensure the original Victorian architecture was respected whilst at the same time producing a quality interior with warmth and colour using warm woods and rich Victorian colours such as empire green and reds.
There was also the need to take in to account the multi-functional nature of the hotel, golf and spa elements of the resort and also make the most of the spectacular long views across the Mere Lake.
Antony Pochin, Managing Director, of Pochin’s PLC, commented: “We were very honoured to have been given the opportunity to work on such a fantastic development in our home region of Cheshire. To be involved right from the start with the addition of the Health Club & Spa and now the new hotel, it is great to see the transformation of such a prestigious leisure development.”
